Free UTM Builder for Pinterest Ads
Pinterest can automatically apply its own UTM values at the account, campaign, or Performance+ ad group level, which will conflict with manually tagged links if both are switched on at once. Manual UTMs belong in the ad's Destination URL field, never in the separate Ad Tracking URLs section reserved for third-party click trackers.

Pinterest Ads tracking gotchas to know before you launch
Automatic UTM tagging can silently overwrite manual tags
Pinterest has separate automatic-tagging switches at the account, campaign, and Performance+ ad group level. If one is enabled, it can overwrite the manual UTM values you set on the destination URL, so check all three levels before assuming your tags are final.
Destination URL and Ad Tracking URLs are not the same field
UTM parameters belong on the Destination URL itself. The separate Ad Tracking URLs section exists for third-party click trackers and will not populate your utm_source or utm_campaign values.
Idea Pins and Shopping ads need distinct utm_content values
These formats have very different intent signals; blending them into one utm_content makes it impossible to tell whether inspiration-driven browsing or a Shopping tag actually drove the conversion.
Pinterest Ads UTM FAQ
Where do UTM parameters go on a Pinterest ad?
In the Destination URL field itself, appended as query parameters. Do not use the separate Ad Tracking URLs section, which is designed for third-party click trackers, not UTM tags.
Will Pinterest overwrite my manual UTM tags?
It can, if automatic UTM tagging is enabled at the account, campaign, or Performance+ ad group level. Check all three settings and disable automatic tagging if you want your manually tagged links to stay intact.
What utm_medium is standard for Pinterest Ads?
cpc is the common convention, matching how most analytics tools expect paid Pinterest traffic to be labeled.
Should I always lowercase utm_source=pinterest?
Yes. Pinterest and most analytics platforms treat UTM values as case-sensitive, so Pinterest and pinterest would show up as two separate sources unless you apply lowercase consistently.
