WordPress UTM Plugin: Build and Track UTM Links in wp-admin

How to create UTM-tagged short links, QR codes and click reports without leaving WordPress, using the UTMLoop plugin.

UTMLOOP COMPREHENSIVE VIEW

The short answer

The UTMLoop plugin adds a UTM builder, short links, QR codes and click analytics to wp-admin. You can tag a link from the post editor sidebar, auto-tag outbound links to chosen domains when you save a post, and keep your team's naming rules in sync with the site. A free trial covers 10 links, with no account needed to start.

What the plugin adds to wp-admin

Dashboard: connection status, 30-day click totals, your five most recent links and a quick-create form.

UTM Builder: a full form for the destination URL, every UTM field and an optional custom slug.

Editor sidebar: a "Create UTMloop short link" button on posts, pages and WooCommerce products.

Analytics: clicks by day, plus top links, sources, devices and countries for any date range.

QR codes: every short link gets a downloadable QR code, generated in your browser.

Auto-tagging (off by default): when you save a post, links to domains you list are replaced with tracked short links.

Governance sync and broken-link alerts: once connected, the plugin pulls your allowed UTM values daily and flags broken links it created.

How to install and connect it

Until UTMLoop is listed in the WordPress.org plugin directory, ask hello@utmloop.com for the plugin file. Then follow the steps below. The plugin makes no external request until you click a button that needs one.

Tagging a link from the post editor

Open any post, page or product and use the UTMLoop box in the sidebar. The destination defaults to the post you are editing; add source, medium and campaign, and the plugin returns a short link and a QR code. If your workspace has naming rules, the fields only accept allowed values, so editors cannot invent "Facebook" when the rule says "facebook".

Auto-tagging outbound links

Under UTMloop → Settings, list the domains you want tracked, such as a partner store or an affiliate program, and set default UTM values. From then on, saving a post replaces links to those domains with tracked short links. It runs on save, not on page load, so it adds nothing to page speed.

What data the plugin sends

Nothing is sent on activation. Your site URL is sent only when you click "Activate free trial" or "Connect to UTMloop", and destination URLs and UTM values are sent only for links you create. Once connected, a daily WP-Cron job refreshes naming rules and checks for broken links.

When you need more than a plugin

The plugin tags links that live on your WordPress site. Campaign links that go out by email, ads or social still need a builder. The same workspace covers both: links created in the UTMLoop builder, the Chrome extension or an AI assistant share the plugin's naming rules and reports. See the WordPress integration page for plan details.

Install the UTMLoop WordPress UTM plugin

  1. In wp-admin, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin and upload the UTMLoop plugin zip.
  2. Click Activate. Activation makes no external requests.
  3. Open UTMloop → Dashboard and click "Activate free trial" to create up to 10 links, or go to UTMloop → Settings and click "Connect to UTMloop" to link an existing account.
  4. Create your first link from UTMloop → UTM Builder or from the UTMLoop box in the post editor sidebar.
  5. Optional: under UTMloop → Settings, turn on auto-tagging and list the domains to track.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the WordPress UTM plugin free?

You can start free: the built-in trial creates up to 10 short links with no account. Connecting a paid UTMLoop plan unlocks unlimited links, full analytics history and content sync.

Does it work with WooCommerce?

Yes. The editor sidebar button appears on WooCommerce products as well as posts and pages, and a connected workspace can sync products.

Will auto-tagging slow my site down?

No. Auto-tagging runs when you save a post, not when a visitor loads the page, and it is off until you turn it on.

Can editors break our naming rules from WordPress?

Not once the site is connected. The plugin syncs your workspace's allowed values daily and only offers those values in its forms.
